Description

Shrinkage cracking is a major concern for certain projects and there are many different admixtures on the market that are intended to serve as a viable, cost-effective solutions. Implementation of certain technologies, however, is not always as effective. Issues due to concrete shrinkage can arise at early ages (during construction or within the first few days after placement) or in the following years during service due to materials, errors in batching, or construction procedures. Furthermore, the ways in which shrinkage is measured do not always account for concrete behavior/properties at early ages, making it difficult to quantify the effects of a given shrinkage reduction technology.

Presentations include a variety of topics from emerging technologies and test procedures, construction practices and field observations, and different perspectives of established technologies. Specific presentations will cover different approaches to internal curing, use of shrinkage reducing admixtures, micro reinforcing, shrinkage compensating admixtures, supplementary cementitious materials, high-performance concrete, a variation in free shrinkage testing, and field observations.
